A recent study by environmental health experts at Michigan State University has revealed some ugly truths about Americans hand washing habits.

The results may just make you think twice before shaking someone’s hand on the other side of the Atlantic…

It appears that just 1 in 20 people wash their hands long enough to destroy infectious germs after using the bathroom. Unsurprisingly, men were the worse culprits, with 50% only hanging around for a splash of water - while 15% didn’t bother at all.

We know, we know – we all should be doing it – but why don’t we do it more? US public health authorities state that nearly 50% of foodborne illness outbreaks in the country are due to bad hand hygiene and the problem has led to some healthcare professionals being monitored by CCTV in order to ensure they wash properly.

Experts say it takes as long as 20 seconds of vigorous washing with soap and water at the basin to kill germs. Our EcoHydra Foam Hand Sanitiser takes two seconds to apply – let it do the work so you don’t have to!
